Nicotinamide Riboside Injection Increases Muscle Growth in High-Yield Broiler Chickens: Preclinical Findings
Synopsis
This study investigated how injecting nicotinamide riboside (NR) into broiler chicken embryos affects breast muscle development. Injection site mattered: NR injected into the yolk sac increased muscle weight, length, and fiber density, whereas injection into the albumen (egg white) decreased muscle weight. NR also altered expression of genes linked to muscle cell growth and metabolism. These results suggest NR enhances embryonic muscle development, possibly by promoting myoblast proliferation.
