EPB41L4A-AS1 and Nicotinamide Riboside Support Brain Energy and Slow Aging: Preclinical FIndings
Synopsis
The long non-coding RNA EPB41L4A-AS1 helps regulate NAD+ and ATP production in the brain, which are critical for energy and cellular function. In aging and Alzheimer's disease, EPB41L4A-AS1 levels drop, leading to reduced NAD+ and ATP, which may accelerate brain aging and neurodegeneration. Experiments showed that boosting EPB41L4A-AS1 or treating cells with nicotinamide riboside (NR), a precursor for NAD+, restored NAD+ and ATP levels, suggesting that supporting this pathway can help maintain brain energy and potentially slow neurodegenerative processes.
