Nicotinamide Riboside Restores Gut Microbiota Diversity and Composition in Alzheimer's Disease
Synopsis
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with gut microbiota imbalances. In APP/PS1 transgenic AD mice, gut microbiome diversity was reduced and composition altered compared to wild-type mice, with differences between sexes. NR supplementation restored microbiome diversity and normalized bacterial populations, including beneficial genera such as Bifidobacterium and Akkermansia. This suggests NR's therapeutic benefits in AD may involve modulation of gut microbiota and host-microbe interactions.
