Nicotinamide Riboside Increases NAD+ Levels and Improves Symptom Recovery in Long COVID: Clinical Findings

Objectives

To investigate the effects of NR supplementation on NAD+ levels, cognitive function, and long COVID symptoms in non-hospitalized individuals with long COVID.

Journal

The Lancet eClinical Medicine

Key Outcomes

  • NR was well-tolerated, with no significant difference in adverse effects between the NR and placebo groups.
  • NR supplementation significantly increased whole blood NAD+ levels, which remained elevated throughout the entire supplementation period.
  • No significant differences were observed in cognitive outcomes between the NR and placebo groups.
  • After 10 weeks of NR supplementation, individual improvements were seen in executive function, fatigue, sleep quality, and depressive symptoms (mood).

Duration

24 weeks (with a two-week screening period, a 20-week intervention period, and a two-week follow-up period)

Dose

2000 mg
