Impact of NAD+ Metabolism on Ovarian Aging: Review
Synopsis
NAD+ is a key coenzyme for energy production and many other vital cell functions, including metabolism, DNA repair, gene regulation, aging, and immune health. Low NAD+ levels are directly linked to age-related diseases, and boosting NAD+ in animal studies has improved health outcomes. In ovarian aging—a natural decline in egg number and quality leading to menopause—NAD+ levels drop over time, but NAD+ precursors may improve egg quality and slow ovarian aging. This review examines factors that influence ovarian aging, the features of NAD+ precursors, and the latest research on NAD+ supplementation in improving fertility for women of advanced maternal age.
