Comparison of Metformin and Nicotinamide Riboside in Reducing Tissue Aging: Preclinical Findings

Synopsis

Metformin (MET) and nicotinamide riboside (NR) both have potential anti-aging effects, but how they work in different tissues isn't fully clear. This study showed that MET and NR reduce signs of aging in human stem cells grown in the lab. In aged rats, both treatments lessened inflammation, fibrosis, and abnormal protein buildup in multiple organs. They also partially reversed age-related gene changes. Together, these results show that MET and NR can reduce aging features in cells and tissues, supporting their potential as anti-aging treatments.
