Combination of Metabolic Cofactors and Nicotinamide Riboside Reduces Obesity and Insulin Resistance: Preclinical Findings

Synopsis

Obesity is a global health problem marked by excessive fat that often leads to metabolic issues like insulin resistance, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol levels, and metabolic syndrome. This study tested a mix of metabolic cofactors (betaine, N-acetylcysteine, L-carnitine, nicotinamide riboside) in obese mice fed a high-fat diet. Treatment moderately reduced body fat, improved blood sugar and lipid levels, boosted fat breakdown, and decreased fat cell size. The treated mice showed higher gene activity for fat breakdown and better fat burning in white and brown fat tissues. They also had improved insulin sensitivity and increased heat production. This combo may be a promising approach to treat obesity and its complications.

Changes in NMN/NAD+ Ratio Activates SARM1 to Trigger Nerve Damage: Preclinical Findings

SynopsisAxon degeneration is a key feature of many neurodegenerative diseases. SARM1 is an enzyme that breaks down NAD+ and, when activated, causes axon destruction. The enzyme NMNAT2 normally conv...
