An Open-Label, Non-Randomized Study of the Pharmacokinetics of the Nutritional Supplement Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) and Its Effects on Blood NAD+ Levels in Healthy Volunteers
Objective
To determine the human pharmacokinetics of oral NR and the effect of NR on whole blood nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) levels.
Study Design
Non-randomized, open-label study in 8 healthy men and women
Dose
2000 mg
Duration
9 days
Key Outcomes
NR supplementation significantly increased blood NAD+ concentrations between baseline and Day 9. On average, NAD+ levels increased 2-fold.
No significant changes were observed in blood pressure, body temperature, body weight, white blood cell count, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), or aspartate aminotransferase (AST).
