Nicotinamide Riboside Improves Fat Metabolism in High-Fructose-Fed Mice: Preclinical Findings

Synopsis

High fructose intake can disrupt fat metabolism by causing resistance to a hormone called FGF21. In a preclinical study, mice given nicotinamide riboside (NR) alongside a high-fructose diet had lower liver and blood fat levels, smaller fat cells, and less liver fat buildup. NR improved FGF21 signaling, reduced inflammation, and helped restore normal fat breakdown in the liver and fat tissue, suggesting NR can counteract fructose-induced fat metabolism problems.
