Nicotinamide Riboside Enhances Muscle Growth and Fiber Density in Chicken Embryos: Preclinical Findings
Synopsis
Researchers injected nicotinamide riboside (NR) into fertilized chicken eggs to study its effects on muscle growth. NR increased the weight, length, and width of the pectoral muscles in chicks after hatching. Muscle fiber density also increased, especially at higher NR doses, although individual fiber size did not change. This shows NR can promote muscle growth by increasing the number of muscle fibers during embryonic development.
