NAD+ Precursors: A Questionable Redundancy: Review
Synopsis
In the last decade, there's been growing interest in treating metabolic and age-related diseases by boosting NAD+ levels in cells. The most common approach is taking NAD+ precursors, a group of vitamin B3 forms the body can use to make NAD+ through different biological pathways. Organisms have kept these multiple NAD-making routes through evolution, possibly because each precursor serves a special purpose. This suggests that different precursors could be used for different therapeutic goals.
