Effects of Nicotinamide Riboside in Mild Cognitive Impairment: Clinical Findings

Objectives

To assess the safety and preliminary effects of NR supplementation on cognition, brain blood flow, and vascular function.

Journal

Alzheimer's & Dementia

Key Outcomes

  • NR increased blood NAD+ levels by 107.7%.
  • NR did not improve cognitive function, although exploratory analyses showed potential improvements in blood flow to the left hippocampus, one of the earliest brain regions affected in Alzheimer’s disease.
  • NR trended toward improvements in diastolic blood pressure and arterial stiffness.

Duration

12 weeks

Dose

1000 mg

Study Design

Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase II, pilot study in 42 adults with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI)
