NAD+ Augmentation as a Disease-Modifying Strategy for Neurodegeneration: Review

Synopsis

Neurodegenerative diseases are a growing global health problem with no current treatments that slow or stop their progression. Boosting nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) has emerged as a promising approach because it can address several disease processes at once, including mitochondrial problems, low energy, protein buildup, and brain inflammation. Early clinical trials show encouraging results, and many more are in progress. To fully realize NAD+'s potential, researchers need to identify the conditions where NAD+ supplementation works best and close key knowledge gaps.
