Effects of Nicotinamide Riboside in Early Stage Parkinson's Disease: Clinical Findings

Objectives

To determine whether NR supplementation improves physical outcomes in early PD.

Journal

JAMA

Key Outcomes

  • NR did not improve clinical outcomes. Overall disease severity worsened modestly more with NR than with placebo. The difference was statistically significant, but the size was moderate and below the usual threshold for a clinically relevant worsening in the individual patient.
  • The findings did not support a clinical benefit from NR at the tested dose and duration.

Duration

52 weeks

Dose

1000 mg

Study Design

Multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase III cinical study in 410 patients with early Parkinson's disease (PD)
