Early Nicotinamide Riboside Supplementation Shows Promise in an Individual with Ataxia Telangiectasia: Case Report

Objective

To investigate the effects of NR supplementation in a 3.5-year-old male child with ataxia and recurrent bacterial infections. This was a case study of one individual.

  • NR supplementation resulted in no adverse effects.
  • Neurological examination after 7 and 11 months of NR supplementation showed a clearer and more fluid speech and improvement in fine motor skills and movement disorder.
  • Use of antibiotics and frequency of hospitalizations due to infections were reduced by more than 90%.
  • The authors stated given the absence of adverse effects, they strongly encourage to consider NR supplementation in all individuals with ataxia telangiectasia.
