Nicotinamide Riboside Blend Improves Hair Density in Humans: Clinical Findings
Objectives
To determine whether MiAc could increase mitochondrial activity and signals involved in hair growth in human cells, and whether shampoo or scalp-tonic formulations containing MiAc could improve hair density in adults with hair-loss symptoms.
Journal
International Journal of Cosmetic Science
Key Outcomes
In Vitro
- In cultured human hair follicle cells and skin fibroblasts, MiAc increased cellular energy, mitochondrial content, and signals associated with hair growth. It also improved cell survival and movement.
In Vivo
- Both shampoo and scalp tonic MiAc formulations produced significant improvements in hair density and growth, with no adverse effects reported during the study.
Duration
24 weeks
Dose
Dose unspecified*
*Intervention consisted of a shampoo or scalp tonic containing Mito-Activator Complex (MiAc). MIAc consisted of nicotinamide, NR, NAD+, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).
Study Design
In Vitro
Laboratory experiments in human hair-follicle cells and skin fibroblasts
In Vivo
Controlled study in 52 adults with hair-loss symptoms
